Vitamin D deficiency is linked to obesity and similar problems. This was proved by a research conducted at the University of Milan. The research on the use of vitamin D in order to curb the obesity was inconclusive. The new research included 400 people with overweight and obesity problem. All of them were put on a low-calorie diet. Then, researchers divide them into 3 groups. The first group didn’t take vitamin D supplements.
The second group took 25,000 international units (IU) of vitamin D per month and the third group took 100,000 IU of vitamin D per month. After 6 months, people who were taking the vitamin D supplements lost weight. This study also found that overweight and obese people with vitamin D deficiency can use vitamin D supplements in order to lose weight and improve the effect of low-calorie diet. Previous studies found that 40% of people who live in North America have vitamin D deficiency. Researchers said that the mentioned benefit of vitamin D supplements works only among people who have vitamin D deficiency. According to Ochner, it is very important to get the right amount of vitamins and other nutrients.
Also, this doesn’t mean that every person who want to lose weight should use vitamin D supplements. According to Toni Marinucci, a dietitian nutritionist from Staten Island University Hospital in New York City, people with vitamin D deficiency can use the supplements and low-calorie diet in order to lose weight. The nickname of vitamin D is ‘’sunshine vitamin’’, because our body produces it when we are exposed to the sunlight. We also can get it from eggs, yogurt, salmon and orange juice.
